This safari itinerary is all about experiencing the wildebeest and zebra migration while exposing the magical people, jaw dropping landscapes and open grasslands that define East Africa. Each year millions of wildebeest and zebra rove the Serengeti/Masai Mara ecosystem in search of food and water. This is one of the most fascinating and large-scale migrations on the planet and it takes your breath away to sit amongst these herds and soak in the power and beauty of nature. Read More
This trip starts in central Kenya in the Laikipia Plateau. This is a mountaineous and beautiful region quite different from the grasslands further south. Here travelers will enjoy interesting properties, many family run, on game rich rhinocerous conservancies - a strong hold for this critically endangered animal. Unique species like the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's Zebra, Somali Ostrich and gerenuk also add variety to this wildlife experience.
This journey continues to spend four nights at a combination of two camps in the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya and/or the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. We design this in one of two ways. First could be splitting time between camps at the front and back of the migration patterns to ensure you are in striking distance of the herds at that time. Alternatively, as the seasons dictate, we split time between camps located inside and outside the reserve or National Park. When you are inside the National Park, expect more tourists around who have traveled to experience the same phenomena. A critical part is the combined time outside the boundaries of the park where the wildlife is still spectacular but there are significantly limited numbers of guests and different rules. Because the conservancies have fewer tourists, they have more flexible rules that can include driving off-road, visiting local villages, taking spot-lit night game drives and escorted walking safaris. This combination is what makes a fantastic overall experience.
The finale is three nights relaxing at the coast to beach comb, snorkel or maybe you can make it past page 10 in your book. Having a few days to relax after an adventurous safari means you can return home rested and recharged.
It is common to add an extension to the Ngorongoro Crater to this itinerary if time permits. Close
