The Nest @ Sossus was designed using the unique structure of a Sociable Weaver nest as inspiration. It took eight years, to bring this project to fruition and this has resulted in one of Namibia’s most extraordinary private villas in terms of both design and décor. Every effort was made to ensure The Nest was self-sufficient and carried the lowest possible environmental footprint and the success of these efforts is evident to all that get to stay there.

The Nest is tucked away in a lush valley on the private Namib Tsaris Conservancy, and it backs up against the great escarpment in the Namib Desert. This valley is a true desert oasis, boasting seasonal natural water pools and falls, and this makes it a magnet for the game moving through the area. A floodlit waterhole provides exciting and varied desert wildlife viewing as well as incredible birding. The villa has three private en-suite double bedrooms as well as an additional en-suite children’s room, so it can comfortably accommodate a group between four to seven guests. Guests are hosted by a private butler, renowned gourmet chef and a top naturalist guide.

Activities offered include visits to Sossusvlei as well as exclusive nature drives, mountain biking and walks on the Namib Tsaris Conservancy. The latter can include day excursions to the Plateau which towers above the desert and dunes landscape below and offers some of the best views out over the Namib. Scenic flights by helicopter or fixed-wing aircraft as well as hot air balloon flights can easily be arranged at an additional cost.

Camp Sossus redefines Namibian luxury with privacy, exclusivity, experiential focus and total flexibility all while being perfectly comfortable. It is a semi permanent tented camp located on the Namib Tsaris Conservancy which is nestled between the Nubib and Zaris Mountains, a mere thirty minutes’ drive from the gateway to Sossusvlei and the Great Namib Sand Sea.

Camp Sossus has eight Meru tents including two family units. Each tent has an open-air en-suite bathroom with flush toilet and bucket shower. There is a central lounge and dining area and a fireplace where guests can gather. As a protection from the prevailing east winds, the tents has natural stonewalls on the eastern side. The roofs are built from recycled oil drums and recycled wood and metal will be used for the interiors too perhaps lending a more solid feel than the semi permanent design alludes to. The visual appearance of the camp aims to blend in with its environment and to be nearly invisible from a distance.

Activities at Sossus Under Canvas focus on visits to Sossusvlei and nature drives in the private Reserve. A private guide will take guests on nature drives, mountain bike rides, nature walks or arrange some stargazing or desert pool experiences. Further options include trips to a plateau with striking views over the Namib Desert, a walking safari or a night under the stars. The location also offers great possibilities for hot air ballooning and helicopter or scenic flights.
