This is one of the original beach resorts and Zanzibar and remains one of our go suggestions. Located in the bustling village of Nungwi, there is lots near-by but this resort remains secluded. The deluxe beachfront chalets are fashioned in traditional Zanzibari style. Accommodation is simple but nice. The PADI dive center is good quality and the staff at this hotel will become your good friends during your stay.

On the northern-most peninsula of Zanzibar Island, Ras Nungwi Beach Hotel overlooks a sparkling expanse of iridescent Indian Ocean. The lush gardens drop down onto one of the finest and most unspoiled beaches on the island, which in turn is fringed by a wide and thriving coral reef. Infused with the laid back, exotic yet ultimately natural spirit of Zanzibar, this is the place to relax and enjoy all that this extraordinary part of the world has to offer.

The hotel has a fully equipped dive center on site, run with PADI certification available to all levels. The variety of sea life on the nearby coral reefs is immense, with regular sightings of dolphins, manta rays, turtles and reef sharks. On several occasions large numbers of rare whale sharks have been sighted. Interiors are nicely decorated with the use of local fabrics, and rooms have handcrafted four-poster beds with a beach view. In the open-air restaurants, cuisine is an array of sumptuous seafood and spicy island fare...calamari, coconut curries and freshly grilled line fish. Best of all Zanzibar is home to over 20 different types of mangos!

There are many interesting things to do on Zanzibar. Tour a spice plantation, or venture through the winding alleys of Stone Town--hike amid the lush vegetation of the Jozani Forest and see the charming red colobus monekys, or simply ride bikes through the island to see the wonderful local villages.
