Mango Favorite

Truly one our favorite spots in Tanzania, Gibbs Farm offers visitors a fabulous alternative to the camps and lodges on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater. The farm offers guests gorgeous cottages, delicious organic coffee and produce grown on site, a nice variety of unique activities and a nice change up in style compared to the ubiquitous tented safari camp found throughout Tanzania. The only drawback is that it’s a pain to drive back to Gibbs from the crater after an already long day in the car. All the other attributes to this property outweigh this longer drive in our opinion.

Located on the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater lies Gibb’s Farm. Founded in the 1920s as a coffee plantation, the farm embraces traditional East African hospitality with roots extending deep into the land and our heritage there.

Gibb’s Farm imparts a sense of well-being and tranquility within a warm, rustic inn environment. Each of the seventeen farm cottages holds its own story connected to Tanzanian culture and history told through unique furnishings and art collections. The two farm houses, Bustani and Deutsches, offer the perfect retreat for bigger families and those travelling together.

Guests are encouraged to immerse themselves in the rhythms of the farm and enjoy a sense of peace and well-being. Surrounded by the rich traditions of East African life, share in the eternal sense of history and community.

Coffee is grown, processed and roasted on the farm, and a vast fruit and organic vegetable garden provides nearly all the fruit and vegetables to the guests, who wake up to fresh coffee, a multitude of flowers and breathtaking views. Gibbs Farm provides a welcome stop on any safari, and a base from which to enjoy the many activities available in the foothills of the Ngorongoro Crater. Even if your stay is short, find time for a tour of the splendid gardens or take part in the many fun farm activities available on site.
