Flying via helicopter is the ideal way to see the untouched mountains and plains of Northern Kenya. On this 2 day, 1 night trip you fly to remote places and see landscapes that few people have seen.

Your first day you fly to the forested summit of the Mathews - amazing islands of forest in a sea of desert, where giant and ancient cycads grow in abundance, and fly over the remote heart of Samburu country and land by the ‘Singing Wells’ where Samburu herdsmen draw water for their livestock. Ending your day, you arrive at the private retreat on Lake Turkana. Set on the western shore of Lake Turkana in a 100-acre palm oasis between Ferguson’s Gulf and Eliye Springs.

Day two takes you to the rim of Silale Crater - a vast caldera carpeted with green shrubs and open grasslands, and through the wild and spectacular changing landscapes of the Suguta. Here the landscape is constantly changing - desolate salt plains, lava flows and crocodile pools, through the colorful ‘painted’ valley where layers of mineral-rich red and orange rock features are heavily eroded and cut through by the seasonal streams. Discover the dramatic ‘hoodoo’ valley which is characterized by impressive rock formations protruding several hundred feet from the valley floor, home to troops of olive baboon and the stately greater kudu antelope. Touch down on the sand dunes: spectacular and constantly changing due to strong winds.

Tumaren Camp is the heart and soul of Karisia Safaris, home to Kerry & James Glenn, who have called this camp home for many years, and it is reflected in their conservation work and dedication to the community. The area boasts the highest diversity of large mammals in Kenya and is also home to several endangered species.

This traditional style tented camp is the base from which to explore the bush by many means. The region’s magnificent scenery is best traversed on foot, accessing where no car will go, and supported by a merry band of camels as our friendly beasts of burden. Knowledgeable guides will reveal their deep understanding and appreciation of the land and its delicate balance – you will learn about the ecology of the pristine landscape, as well as the flora and fauna which thrive here. Each day you will set out after breakfast, and after high tea, for a few hour walk or drive in search of wildlife; along the way you will be looking for eland, steenbuck, giraffe, waterbuck, Grevy's zebra and signs of predators. One of the camp’s greatest assets is the opportunity to interact with communities (including schools, homesteads and markets) as well as local conservation work and general freedom to explore.

The camp is centered around a jovial main area for dining and story-telling. And you’ll lack no comforts in the large walk-in guest tents, each fitted with luxury bedding, dressing gowns, headlamps, solar lights, and a private en suite shower and toilet.
