A beautiful and well run lodge located near the magnificent dunes of Sossusvlei. Though a tad larger than we normally recommend, this lodge is great for experiencing the desert environment and the interesting creatures that make their home here. Ice cold Windhoek Lager on tap is also a plus.

The Namib Desert is the second largest desert in the world. Situated on the 37,000 hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve, bordering the Namib Naukluft Park, Kulala Desert Lodge lies in the heart of the Namib. It offers magnificent views of the famous red dunes of Sossusvlei as well as spectacular mountain scenery.
Accommodation at Kulala Desert Lodge comprises of 23 thatched and canvas kulalas (which means to sleep in Oshiwambo) with en-suite bathrooms and verandas. Each unit is built on a wooden platform to catch the cooling breezes and has a deck on the flat rooftop where bedrolls are placed for guests to sleep under the myriad stars that Namibias clear skies portray. The main lodge has a lounge, bar, dining area and plunge pool. The overall setting is a true delight to the senses, bringing together the rhythm of Namibia, wholesome meals and intimacy.
Early morning guided drives to the spectacular dunes are via a private gate on the Tsauchab River. Game drives and walks are also offered on the private reserve with incredible scenery, desert game and smaller desert adapted fauna and flora. Early morning ballooning is another option offered (booked separately), weather permitting. The 60-90 minute balloon safari offers a truly unique experience of soaring silently above the magnificent desert sand dunes and ending with a champagne breakfast served at the landing site.
