This camp is out there! It is seriously wild and rugged country which is its charm... A haven for the red crested turaco and the De Brazza monkey, this camp requires day hikes to view these elusive animals. Along the way you will encounter the beautiful ferns, orchids and waterfalls that serve as a welcome relief from the vehicle based game drives. The local Samburu staff accompany you on these hikes. All have arresting black and white portraits hanging in the communal dining room which were all taken by the Italian botanist who returns every summer to conduct research in this remote part of Kenya.

Kitich Camp is located in the remote Matthews Mountain Range, nestled in a verdant grove of fig trees, indigenous flowering shrubs and Cycad palms. It faces a bank of the Ngeng River, surrounded by green wooded hillsides and craggy peaks. The camp is a lush oasis amid arid surroundings and is one of the real conservation successes of Kenya. A grass roots approach that has resulted in a win-win situation for people, wildlife and the environment. The wildlife found in the Ngeng Valley include elephants, lions, leopards, greater kudus, waterbucks, giant forest hogs, buffalos and wild dogs, along with more than 200 bird species.
Everything about Kitich has been left as natural as possible without sacrificing any creature comforts. With only six guest tents, one can expect complete privacy. Each en-suite tent is traditionally safari-style, and has an al fresco stone bathroom with bush showers and drop toilets. Kitich Camp's cozy lounge with an open fire and sheepskin-covered safari chairs overlooks the floodlit river glade - from here guests can enjoy watching the wildlife emerge from the forest at dusk. Because of the pristine and unexplored wilderness, the camp avoids the traditional game drives; instead guests enjoy guided forest walks. Living in this remote, unspoiled place, hiking among the elephants and other wildlife, guided by the Samburu who have walked these paths for over two hundred years - this is a spiritual experience that is never forgotten.
