It's hard to go wrong at Lewa Wilderness. Will and Emma are fantastic people and welcoming hosts. The funky rooms are the epitomy of 'Kenyan chic' meaning all the furniture, hearths, walls, tile, etc have been hand made with materials on the property. The range of activities at your fingertips is impressive. Definitely splurge for the bi-plane ride if Will is around. WOW!
This lodge is located on the Lewa Conservancy which is THE pioneering conservancy from its cattle ranching history. Lewa has incredible game concentrations especially rhino and the unique Northern species. The fact that Lewa is fenced and highly managed does detract slightly from the wilderness feel, however the flip side to this is great wildlife sitings are almost guaranteed.

Lewa Wilderness Lodge is situated against the dramatic backdrop of the snow-covered massif of Mount Kenya in the 65,000 acre Lewa Conservancy. The Conservancy has many diverse habitats from pristine forest, fertile grasslands, extensive springs and acacia woodland. Formerly a working cattle ranch it is now the headquarters of one of Kenya's major non-profit wildlife conservancies. With wildlife densities as high as anywhere in Africa, it is possible to see all of Africas Big Five at Lewa. Lewa serves as a safe refuge for the critically endangered black rhino and the endangered Grevy’s zebra, as well as the elephant, lion, giraffe, wild dog and other iconic wildlife species in Kenya. The Conservancy is also home to more than 400 species of birds.
The lodge has nine exclusive rooms: six thatched cottages tucked into the hillside overlooking Lewa’s Eastern Marania Valley, and three thatched garden cottages set in the beautiful green lawns. Guests can relax by the fire in Will and Emma's cozy sitting room and share meals around a long banquet table in the open-air dining room. Natural springs, home-raised livestock, and a 5-acre organic garden are transformed by skilled chefs into healthy and delicious food. The salt-water pool is refreshing, the stables are out back, and the clay tennis courts are waiting.
Activities include day and night game drives in open 4 wheel drive vehicles, escorted bush walks and game viewing on horseback and/or camels.
